Why isn't this on the front page of EVERY FUCKING NEWSPAPER ON THE PLANET!?!?!?

John Singleton figured out how to make radio waves travel faster than the speed of light.

FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT.

Are you fucking kidding me? Everyone on planet earth is worried about Michael Jackson, Billy Mays, Farrah Fawcett and the crap going on in Iran when this...THIS has been announced!?!?!!?

Read the article.

And for buddha's sake remember today, I know I will.

When I first read the news (thank you), I thought of how it could help humans communicate with other intelligences in space.

Or just help us talk to other humans once we start taking people off planet. From the moon there's still a 1 second delay in radio traffic. From mars its minutes and just outside the solar system (excluding the kuiper belt and oort cloud for now) it takes an hour for 2 way communication.

I wish there were more details like how much faster and does it allow for further transmission and such.

Be kind of pain sending a message to the colony on alpha centauri and have to wait 4 years there and 4 years back for a response.

Good stuff though, right?

Since radio waves are light, are they really traveling faster than the speed of light :-p.

And on the totally opposite spectrum... I drove to work faster than the speed of light [passing through a Bose-Einstein condensate] this morning.

On the one hand, the original news item was a misreport of Singleton's work. On the other hand, the truth of the research (I forget where in the hour the interview is) is much better than the misreport. Singleton is wonderful at explaining his research. There is no such thing as superluminary radio waves, but he has come up with a plausible explanation of how pulsars work.
